Thumping Noise or Food Wobbling in Microwave
Thumping Noise or Food Wobbling in Amana Microwave
Is your Amana microwave making a loud thumping sound while running, or is the glass tray shaking and wobbling? The Good News: The turntable might just need to be adjusted. It usually happens when food debris blocks the roller track or the glass plate slips off its center drive hub and just needs to be adjusted.
NOTE: Always turn off or unplug your microwave before reaching inside to clean or adjust internal parts. Refer to your Owner's Manual for all safety information and information about your specific model.
Quick DIY Troubleshooting Checklist
Clean the Glass Tray and Roller Ring
Food spills and grease build up under the turntable could cause the wheels to bump or slip.
- Carefully lift out the glass turntable plate and the wheeled roller ring underneath.
- Wash both items in warm, soapy water.
- Wipe down the microwave floor and the circular recessed track using a damp cloth.
- Ensure the track and wheels are completely dry before reassembling.
Re-align the Glass Tray with the Motor Hub
If the tray isn't seated correctly on the center drive mechanism, it will wobble and thump with every turn.
- Inspect the bottom of the glass tray for three raised alignment tabs.
- Look at the center drive hub on the floor of the microwave.
- Place the roller ring back into the track.
- Set the glass tray directly on top, gently rotating it until you feel the tabs locking securely onto the center hub.
Inspect the Roller Ring
If the noise persists after cleaning and alignment, check for broken plastic.
- Examine the roller ring wheels for cracks, flat spots, or missing pieces.
- Check the center motor hub on the microwave floor for cracks or rounded-off teeth.
- Solution: If the turntable, hub or support ring is damaged, cracked or worn, replace it with an official Amana OEM replacement part. Replacement parts can be purchased at Amana Purchase Genuine Parts.
