Food Residue Remains on China - Dishwasher

Possible Solutions

Is the water turned on?

The water supply must be completely open to wash and rinse the dishes properly.

Does the dishwasher need to be cleaned?

Dishwashers should be cleaned approximately every 30 days for optimal performance. Using affresh®  Dishwasher Cleaner every month will help keep your dishwasher from filming and spotting and keep the interior clean and free of odors.

Is the spray arm blocked?

A blocked spray arm can delay the detergent and soil removal.  If the delay is too long, too much residue can remain in the wash cycle, and the final rinse might not provide optimal performance.

How to check?  Before starting the cycle, spin the middle spray arm by hand to confirm there are no items preventing it from freely spinning.  If there is resistance,e rearrange the dishes.

Are the dishes correctly loaded?

Properly loading the dishes is essential for optimal cleaning performance and drying.  Here are some tips for proper loading:

  • Don't overload the dishwasher. While it may be tempting to cram in as many dishes as possible, this can lead to inadequate water circulation and could result in unclean dishes. Ensure enough space for water and detergent to reach every item for optimal cleaning results.
  • Load items at an angle. Ensure items are loaded at an angle and pointed toward the spray arms. Keeping items loaded at an angle will also help with water runoff and drying performance.
  • Put plastic in the correct spot. Due to their complex shapes, plastic items are especially difficult to load to promote drying. Also, plastic does not conduct heat like glass or ceramics. If available, load your plastic cups, bowls, and mugs in the third-level rack for the best dry performance. Don’t put plastic items on the lower rack. Plastic items are less likely to deform when loaded in the top rack.

What type of detergent should I use?

High-quality pre-measured tablets and packs are recommended for improved performance.

Quality tablets and packs have been proven better than powder, liquid, or gel detergents at reducing filming on dishes. Using tablets and packs over time will start to reduce or eliminate white film. They are suitable for all water hardness and soil levels. Also, by using rinse aid, you can minimize the repeat buildup of the white film (not all packs and tablets contain rinse aid). Always place pre-measured detergents in the main compartment and close the lid.

The Pre-Wash indicator on the dispenser lid is for customers who use powder or gel detergent and wish to add an amount of detergent to the Pre-Wash cycle. The volume of detergent added here is approximately eight cubic centimeters if filled full and level. Any detergent added here would be immediately added to the wash when the cycle starts versus detergent inside the dispenser, which is added during the main wash cycle.

NOTE: Follow the instructions on the package when using other dishwasher detergent types.

  • Use automatic dishwasher detergent only. Add detergent just before starting a cycle.
  • Fresh automatic dishwasher detergent results in better cleaning.
  • Store the detergent in a tightly closed container and place it in a cool, dry place.
  • Extremely hard water mineral deposits (15 grains per U.S. gallon or more) can cause damage to your dishwasher and make it difficult to achieve good results. A water softener is recommended to avoid damage and achieve good results.

Was the correct cycle used? Is the water pressure too low, or is the water temperature too low?

If your food soil is heavy on the dishes, a heavier cycle may be required to clean them fully. Check whether the water pressure is high enough for proper dishwasher filling. Water pressure should be 20 to 120 psi (138 to 828 kPa).
