What does the "SUD" or "SD" Error Code mean

"Sud" or "Sd" in display of your Amana Washer

Using the correct amount and type of additives:

This error code indicates excessive detergent suds occurred during the cycle. This could be caused by using too much detergent or not using High-Efficiency (HE) detergent.

The washer will not be able to spin out water with the excess suds. When "Sud" or "Sd" is displayed, the washer automatically extends the rinse time to remove the excess suds. During this time, the washer pauses the tumbling and adds water for additional rinsing. This pause allows the bubbles in the suds to break. This pause and rinsing are necessary and may occur several times to eliminate the suds. This could significantly lengthen the time for your washer to complete the cycle.

If the problem continues, and the correct amount and type of detergent is being used, we suggest running a "Clean Washer" cycle to remove residual detergent that might have built up in the washer.  Follow the instructions in your Owner's Manual for cleaning.

Refer to the video below for information on how an HE washer works:

Did you use "no splash" or "easy pour" liquid chlorine bleach?

This type of liquid chlorine bleach contains a thickening agent that may create excess suds in washers. If this is the case, run the washer empty, using regular liquid bleach products, or clean with affresh® washer cleaner before running another load.

Cleans even where you can't see

affresh® cleans deep inside your appliances, reaching components such as the tub, racks, pump, valves, drain, and recirculation hoses.

Cleaners are available at many retailers or can be purchased here.
