Lid Not Latching - Washer

Possible Solution

Is there anything blocking the latch?

Ensure the door latch is not blocked.  Below are some everyday items that may prevent the washer from latching:

  • Packing and/or shipping material
  • Item or clothing

Does the latch need to be cleaned?

Check to make sure there is no soil build-up in the door contact area. If it does need to be cleaned, use warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth.

Was the cycle just started?

When the Start/Pause button is touched, the washer will first perform a self-test on the lid lock mechanism. You will hear a click, the basket will slightly turn, and the lid will unlock briefly before locking again.

NOTE: Avoid opening the lid during sensing. The sensing process will start over when the washer is restarted. The sensing light may also come on during the Wash portion of the cycle. This is normal.

Is the lid closed?

Your previous washer may have filled and washed with the lid open.

  • Some newer washers will not fill or wash with the lid open. The lid must be closed for the machine to fill with water, wash, drain, rinse, and spin the load. Close the washer lid before starting the washer.
  • Some will fill with the lid open but will not advance if the lid remains open. If the lid stays open, the washer will drain after 10 minutes.
