Leveling the Dishwasher

How to Level a Amana Dishwasher

Ensuring your Amana dishwasher is properly leveled is crucial for its optimal performance and longevity. An unlevel dishwasher can lead to problems such as inefficient drainage, excessive noise, and subpar cleaning results. This comprehensive guide will explain the importance of leveling your dishwasher, how to determine if it's level, and provide step-by-step instructions to achieve the perfect balance. By following these guidelines, you can enhance the functionality of your appliance, ensuring it operates smoothly and effectively for years to come.

Understanding the Importance of Leveling Your Dishwasher

Leveling your dishwasher is an essential maintenance task that ensures optimal performance. A dishwasher that is not level can result in uneven water distribution, impacting its ability to clean dishes efficiently. This inefficiency can lead to dirty dishes, necessitating multiple wash cycles and wasting both time and energy.

Moreover, an unlevel dishwasher can cause water to pool in specific areas. Additionally, a correctly leveled dishwasher improves the drying process. When not level, water may not drain completely, leaving excess moisture on dishes, which can cause spotting.

How to Determine if Your Dishwasher is Level

Start with a visual inspection: open the dishwasher door and observe its alignment. A properly leveled dishwasher should have a door that opens and closes smoothly without wobbling. Next, employ a level tool for precision. Place it on the top edge of the dishwasher, both side-to-side and front-to-back. The bubble should be centered in the vial, indicating the dishwasher is level. If the bubble is off-center, adjustments are required.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Leveling Your Dishwasher

The dishwasher must be supported by the leveling legs and rear wheels and must be flat on the floor. Some models will have four leveling legs. The dishwasher must also be square in the cabinet. If the tub opening is not square, the door will not seal properly. This is the responsibility of the customer or installer.  Follow these steps to achieve perfect balance:

Adjusting the Legs: Start by pulling the dishwasher out from under the countertop to access the legs. Use the level to check its current positioning by placing it on the top edge. If the bubble isn’t centered, adjust the legs accordingly. Most dishwashers have adjustable front legs. Rotate clockwise to raise or counterclockwise to lower. Repeat for both front legs until the dishwasher is level side-to-side and front-to-back. Learn how to use your phone to level household appliances.

Final Checks: Push the dishwasher back into place and recheck the level.
