Possible Solutions

Are there food soils on the dishes or the bottom of the tub?

Odors can be caused by dirty dishes and food soils that fall into the tub or other parts of the dishwasher and decompose. If the dishwasher is not used daily, you can run a rinse cycle with the partial load until a full load is ready to be washed. Use affresh^® Dishwasher Cleaner regularly to keep the tub of the dishwasher clean of soils. You can also run a vinegar rinse through the dishwasher by putting 2 cups (500 mL) of white vinegar in an upright glass measuring cup in the lower rack. Run a normal cycle with the dry option turned off (on some models). Do not use detergent.

Is the dishwasher filter dirty? (on some models)

Filter Style 1

Cleaning the filters periodically helps keep the dishwasher working at peak performance and helps to remove the odor-causing soils. The filters can be found at the bottom center of the dishwasher. See the Owner's Manual for instructions on removing and cleaning the filters.

Filter Style 2

The pump is protected from large objects entering it by the foreign object cup in the front and below the lower rack. The maintenance-free filter system does not require any regular cleaning or maintenance. If this cup fills up with particles or objects, depress the tab in the center and pull up on the cup to remove it. Dispose of the contents and then replace the cup. To replace the cup, put into the opening and push down to lock in place.
